As part of the district's ongoing efforts to promote inclusion and stamp out bullying, I wanted to tell you a little bit about what's happening at Larson Middle School this week and next.
Staff and students have been focusing on promoting PEACE. The theme is Peace In… Dissin’ Out. Teachers are presenting mini lessons relating to bullying, being a hero and sticking up for others, acceptance, impact of labels, tolerance, diversity and celebrating our similarities.
Next Tuesday the 26th during sixth hour, the school will host a “White Out” peace assembly to celebrate and review our week. There will be games, a Peace IN pledge, skits relating to our week, a presentation from Athens' Diversity Club and a teacher dance.
This effort is just one of many programs going on in every school in the Troy School District and we're hoping they all foster conversation at home. Ask your children what anti-bullying programs they've been a part of in their schools!

The Troy Education Association, the teachers’ union composed of
Troy teachers, has always taken an interest in serving Troy families. To
fulfill part of their service to the community, they have consistently
supported the Troy People Concerned food bank housed at St. Anastasia
Church. Each month, the teaching staffs of two or three Troy public
schools use their personal funds to purchase large quantities of food products
and paper goods. These donations are then supplied to needy Troy
families. The staff of Barnard elementary gathered over $200 in personal
funds to grocery shop for local families this month. These generous
donations are one example of the TEA’s crucial service to its community in
addition to their professional role of instructing students each day.
TEA donates backpack!
Here are pics of the backpacks donated for Troy People Concerned by Troy teachers. We had approximately 85 backpacks donated and more will be donated later this summer.
